I've been in the FidoNet since, ohh..., since about 1985 or '86. Since
then I've seen many trends in BBS software, and I've run many, many types
of BBS and mailer software.
But now I am seeing what I think is a disturbing trend in the FidoNet...
And that is what prompts me to release this version of RAAddLog with the full
source code included.
Many utilities that I've seen, both for RA, and for other BBS types, have
decided to use very restrictive licensing agreements and/or very annoying
user registration systems.
The amount of simple little programs requiring "keys" and other things is
just baffling to me. While I don't deny those authors the right to receive
compensation for their work, I do think that it's going too far. Many of
these programs are relatively simple in nature. Too much of this goes against
the Hobbyist or Hacker spirit of the FidoNet, IMHO.
So I've decided to start releasing all future versions of the program I
write with the full source code and just about as "loose" (read free)
licensing agreements as possible. The reason I am doing this is to hopefully
combat this trend of tons of $5-$20 simple programs, and hopefully someone
might learn a trick or two by studying my source code -- or better yet,
someone will teach ME a trick or two by looking at my source code! :-)
So this program is released with the full source code. Compile it, use it
freely, enjoy it (hopefully) -- just don't sell it (see the licensing
agreement in the .DOC file).
Enjoy!
